Dance Gavin Dance – Downtown Battle Mountain II – Review

As if lightning has struck the same place twice, Dance Gavin Dance has returned to us with their dripping-with-talent founding roster (minus Sean O’Sullivan). So all the wacky drug-related circumstances surrounding Jonny Craig and his undeniably remarkable voice, the scatter-brained wild shouts of Jon Mess, and the thumping bass compositions of Eric Lodge, are back once again with Matt Mingus (drums) and Will Swan (guitars) and honestly it’s about damn time. Not that the band didn’t find suitable replacements, but there is just something about this line-up that feels fluid and complete. It is funny seeing that most of the new movies coming out this year are sequels and DGD has decided their newest full-length, “Downtown Battle Mountain II” shouldn’t go breaking tradition. It’s what the band does with this newly found reformation though, that makes the effort really stand out. read more

Jonny Craig (Dance Gavin Dance, Emarosa) has checked into a Detox facility in North Hollywood to receive treatment for the drug addictions that have plagued him for several years. Rise Records and Artery Foundation Artist Management have assumed financial responsibility for the internet fraud (scamming macbook pros) Craig committed during the past year, and which became public during the past two weeks. Former Tides Of Man vocalist Tilian Pearson will fill in for Craig on Emarosa‘s current tour with Chiodos. All Dance Gavin Dance performances scheduled beginning next month will go on as planned. A statement from the label and management group can be read after the jump. read more
