Blink 182 – Neighborhoods – Review
Being that bands like Blink 182, Lagwagon, and Bodyjar, shaped the musical pallet of my early years, I always hold them closer than the newly spawned artists of today, not to mention my fondness for dick jokes. After their over-analyzed experimental self-titled effort alienated enough pop punk fans, the band had a falling out. In this corner Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker formed the “I’m playing carefree pop punk but I’m old” band +44, while Tom Delonge with his cloudy-minded conspiracy theories formed the space rock outfit, Angels & Airwaves. Clearly at creative wits end, the trio pinballed around different projects, always offering less than the sum of their whole. Only until the tragic jet crash in which Travis and DJ AM miraculously survived, did the trio put aside petty disagreements and feuds to work together once again, which they awkwardly pronounced at the 2009 Grammy’s. The fruition of the bands efforts came full circle with the release of their first album in eight years, “Neighborhoods.” read more

Limp Bizkit – Gold Cobra – Review
Feeling almost like the attempted resurgence of Vanilla Ice in the late 90′s and early 00′s, the proverbial, rap/rock mixing, nu-metalers Limp Bizkit have resurfaced after six years of gleeful (for most anyways) hiatus. This time with all of their founding members intact – including a once tumultuous chemistry with one Wes Borland, which has seemingly mellowed itself out. Admiting to once being a fan of this (now) cartoon charactor of a band is rather difficult. My ears found a home with the pent up angst, raw emotion, and hyped lyricism of the bands best works, 97′s, “Three Dollar Bill, Y’all$” and 99′s commercial hit, “Significant Other,” while a matured pallete and expanding tastes had me turn a deaf ear to their later efforts and attempts at the dying nu-metal genre. After several years, reformations that included the addition of competent guitarist Mike Smith (Snot), a yo-yo releationship with Wes Borland, an contrived attempt at prog alt-metal with “The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1),” a Fred Durst sex-tape, and a hell of a lot of late-arrival creativity, many had written off the collective talent of these five. Now enters the act’s new album “Gold Cobra,” which seems to be a refresh for the bands past and past music. read more

All Time Low – Dirty Work – Review
It’s a generally accepted notion that no one needs to explain why All Time Low has become so popular and influential over the last few years, for better or for worse. These four pop-rockers from Baltimore, MD quickly came on to the scene and a few dozen catchy hits and chart-topping albums later, we have ATL’s fourth full length, major label-debut, “Dirty Work.” And while some consider the bands hay-days to have already come and gone with their EP “Put Up Or Shut Up” and sophomore “So Wrong, It’s Right” sharing the most of the glory, many have had nothing but pleasant things to say about the bands recent full-lengths. I guess we’ll see how far the rabbit hole goes. read more
