Thursday – No Devolución – Review

There comes a time when an artist will shed their current rate of progression and leap forward more than anyone could have anticipated, to concepts and musicianship from which there is no return. The NJ post-hardcore wonder-kins, Thursday have provided the genre’s early and recent staple albums, with “Waiting,” “Full Collapse,” the break-out “War All The Time,” and “A City By The Light Divided” — all of which were drivers of purpose, concealer of underlying metaphors, and conveyors of melodic thrashing post-hardcore. Not the least of which was the result of lead singer (gap-tooth enthusiast) Geoff Rickly, who acted as the face of the band and provided a mixture of poetry and potent shouts for almost fifteen years now. After 2006, the start of a three year break occurred which saw the band departing from Island Records and signing to leading independent label Epitaph Records, where the enjoyable retreading of early era Thursday surfaced in “Common Existence.” Since then, Thursday has grown by leaps and bounds as their latest album, “No Devolución,” is on a completely different plane of existence as their previous work. read more
