No matter what some people will think, I have always considered Story Of The Year to be a quality band. There are those who shrug them off as a standard rock band, who had their 15 minutes of fame back in 2003, but I would disagree. In an age when bands are either putting out garbage or vastly experimental releases that alienate all of their fan base, it’s nice to see a band that can pull together consistent rock albums that never let up on the gas and serve as prime soundtracks to get amped up to. Such was the case with 2003′s radio friendly “Page Avenue” and their sophomore album “In The Wake Of Determination.” “The Black Swan” kept up the raging rock formula, but also added softer, and more solemn, introspective pieces that walked in contrast to their earlier works. With this new decade upon us, I was hoping Story Of The Year hadn’t outgrown their always solid rock when it came to their last effort “The Constant,” because I had a feeling this time around, their music would be anything but constant. read more
