Jeffree Star – Beauty Killer – Mini Review
Release Date: September 22nd, 2009
Record Label: Popsicle Records
Genre: Electronica Rock
What used to only be a problem for guys at last call looking for leftovers to take home and ignoring the slight lump on “her” throat and crotch, has now infiltrated our music. “Her” now-cliche growing up gay lifestyle, androgynous appearance, and love for all things materialistic and trashy, have helped Jeffree Star amass a city’s population in fans. I feel I must do my due diligence and comment/warn about his recent record, “Beauty Killer.” The sad thing is that I’m not even one of those people that just hates Jeffree for being a stuck up “tranny,” if you will. I have much deeper concerns. Concerns that tend to sneak into this years Warped Tour, with his friends Millionaires and Brokencyde, and musically defecate on their fans why they await with open arms and open mouths. Not to mention the fact that J. Star’s electronica rock is rehashed and tired, and the lyrics are mind-numbingly dreadful (not that he wrote them all himself anyways). And even with enjoyable features on the record, such as Matt Skiba (Alkaline Trio), Breathe Carolina, and Kyle Castellani (Nural), the album still can’t get its head out of mediocrity. “Beauty Killer” is the anthem for all those teenage girls that practice self hate and listen to trends and slutty garbage. Well at least Marilyn Manson has some company in the “is that a girl? no wait its a guy” club. ~Staff
