Killing The Dream – Lucky Me – Review
Release Date: November 23rd, 2010
Record Label: Deathwish Inc.
Genre: Punk
If you have yet to hear about Killing the Dream you probably do not listen to much hardcore. Deathwish Inc. will be releasing the bands latest entitled Lucky Me. This seven track lp is just under 20 minutes, but it packs a heavy hand for a vicious haymaker of explosive melodic hardcore. Killing the Dream comes out swinging with “Blame the Architects,” before slowing it down from a melodic interlude building into a rock groove. As Lucky Me moves forward you continue to feel the emotions pour out of the speakers from the melodic passages that paint vivid pictures.
The greatest strength of Lucky Me is that it doesn’t feel like the atypical melodic hardcore album, rather it has depth. The album is light and will appeal to melodic hardcore and post hardcore fans. Lucky Me is a testament to growth. It lashes out but has a mature tone and arrangement to it, that makes it feel just right. The standout for me is “Black,” the melody sends chills down your spine. The entire album has a visceral feel, along with rising and falling actions it just pulls at your mind one track at a time.
The only complaint, seven track lp? It is rather short, but between the lyrics and the melody the overall effect of Lucky Me, is stonger than most 13 track records. If you enjoy bands like Comeback Kid and Bane, emotionally charged hardcore with a deeper meaning than an underdog mentality this record is probably your best bet at it this year.
Killing the Dream has one dynamic beast within Lucky Me, come November 23rd, it will be unleashed. Do not sleep on this record if your a fan of the band or any other melodic hardcore band because this has everything you want. Despite the fact you may want a few more tracks, Killing the Dream made all the right moves on this one. ~James Terry
