Artist Vs. Poet – Artist Vs. Poet EP – Review

Release Date: November 18th, 2008
Record Label: Fearless Records
Genre: Pop Punk

So it always seems like you can’t keep a good thing down. (Not that I’m pole jockin’ or anything but) it seems that more over, Fearless Records has an excellent track record of picking the perfect pop rock bands to fill the ears of young 13 ear old girls (and maybe some others that like it but keep it quiet.) The same is true with their recent signee Artist Vs. Poet. Their self-titled EP hit stores in November but it is probably still spinning in your stereo.

Also in true pop punk fashion this miniature EP is a hit-tastic 5 tracks long. Produced by Mike Green (Paramore, The Higher, Danger Radio) and sporting the familiar styles from bands like The Morning Light, There For Tomorrow, and The Friday Night Boys, AvP (Not Alien Versus Predator) is on the verge of being labeled a “cookie-cutter” band, but with the help of a little synth they maintain a fresher sound then the norm.

Sure it is important to push the norm and experiment, but in the same vein it is nice to enjoy the current, enjoy the consistent for a little bit. Meaning that while Artist Vs. Poet does share common traits with many hit bands out there, it is still a helping of undeniably catchy pop rock tracks that are sure to swoon the hearts of teenagers left and right. So have no fear adding Artist Vs. Poet to the CDs you give playtime to, because they are a sure thing. Summer soundtracks in winter? I guess that’s what you get when you pit an artist and poet in a cage match! ~Staff
