And Then There Were None – Who Speaks For Planet Earth? – Review
Release Date: February 24th, 2009
Record Label: Tooth & Nail Records
Genre: Electronica Pop Rock
And Then There Were None doesn’t want to be another typical, generic band in todays watered down scene. After listening to their Tooth & Nail full length debut, “Who Speaks For Planet Earth?” is nothing short than incredible, the CD title lets you know exactly what the album is. They show exactly who speaks for planet earth their music does on this amazing blend of pop/punk/rock, they definately appear to be heading in the right direction with their sound. Combining elements of punk, rock, and progressive, this record offers us twelve diverse songs that are full of aggression and melody.
The CD first makes its mark with “John Orr The Arsonist,” a hard-hitting anthem which consistently displays no less than the bands proficiency in breaking down the binding musical barriers so commonly built amongst these particular genres. Its evident already that And Then There Were None feel no urge to lock themselves within a single genre, especially when theres so much musical ground aching to be explored. The vocals are pretty raw, yet soothing all the same, and one of many key-factors in the bands explosive seductiveness. “Reinventing Robert Cohn“, the CD’s fourth track, follows in the same exciting, and evidently enticing format that the opener set the chorus with. The track, ultimately showcases the bands compulsory know-how in crafting an infectious hook, all the while forcing the listener to beg for more. The discs fifth track, “Action Is The Anecdote,” features the power behind the bands commanding musicianship. Lyrically, the track is descriptive of the highly-intriguing CD title making sure you know exactly who speaks for planet earth and that And Then There Were None does. The power behind the bands sound is phenomenal at every stop and the structure of each song is perfectly arranged on every level.
In conclusion, words cannot describe the impression And Then There Were None has left me with. “Who Speaks For Planet Earth?” is not only an exciting, exhilarating experience from beginning to end, but the band manages to stray above and beyond any expectations any listeners could have possibly had before indulging themselves in the records content. Although the album comes to a close much sooner than one would prefer, each track offers enough incredible hooks to ensure the replayability and staying power of the album. And Then There Were None have created a full-length they should be proud of, and one that any listener should be excited to lay their hands on. This is a band with all the makings of a big hit, and they’re well on their way to becoming just that. ~Staff
