Record Label: Metropolis Records
Genre: Industrial Rock

KMFDM is no stranger to controversies, not to mention attention. Surprisingly you somehow get noticed since you’ve been a band for a quarter of a century, you have a laundry list of former members, you are the back bones of many industrial metal acts today, and also the fact that their latest album “Blitz” is their sixteenth studio effort. But even things such as roster shuffles, defending KMFDM as an art form and not an expression of Nazism, and more ludicrous arguments, haven’t kept this band, named after the initialism “Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid” (or no pity for the majority) down.

Blitz” isn’t that much of a difference since the reformation of the band in 2002. The band still loves the art work of Aidan Hughes who has made almost every single album and single cover for the band. This albums art features a shirtless lead singer and is a watered down piece of art then the normal emotion filled artwork of different album covers. The music however is still as original and quirky as ever, as you see when not even two songs in, a hail of industrial metal strobes into your ears and doesn’t let up. Just as before, Lucia’s voice adds that humanistic and heavenly set of vocals that helps to balance out Sascha’s fine but overly synthesized voice.

Those hoping for a hard effort will be in for a disappointment though. This teeters between metal and rock but makes its home in the latter for most of the album. As I was listening all the way through, I couldn’t help but replay the verse of spoken word German on “Davai.” It’s just something about a Germans language and accent. It sounds so passionate and dirty at the same time. So if you need your trance fix and you don’t mind a sprinkling of guitars or you need your next good rock album and don’t mind a massive amount of synth and techno beats then you should pick this up.

So if you have only heard of the American side of industrial rock such as Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails, then you are missing out on the pioneers of the genre in bands such as KMFDM and Godflesh. “Blitz” feels similar to their other efforts, but with a little more of a tamer satire. ~Staff
