A wise saying we’ve all heard reads, “never judge a book by its cover.” This very saying is one that we all tend to have a hard time following but being the spontaneous human I am I made the decision to write this piece of a band called Fair. In my opinion I believe they exceed the expectations of the name that has labeled them. They rest in the city of Seattle and to make a name drop, it seems they must have been sleepless during the creation of this ten track piece of art entitled “Disappearing World” because it’s simply music for the soul.

In a modern day music industry we suffer from the repetitiveness. In saying that, basically, if you build it they will come. People will crawl in the footsteps of another to make a dollar or two and have the tendency to forget about their potential and desires just to be a crowd pleaser. Fair is something slightly different than the norm which gives it the stamp of “indie,” which a strange term to use in a commercialized world but we’ll roll with it. From the very first words to the title track, “Disappearing World”, I have been warped into a little cardboard box filled with shapes and colors. Falling pieces of the world surround my almighty human brain, fill it with real emotions, and top it off with a bow. A few more feel good Beatles-style tracks would include “It’s doubtful, One Last Time, and Escape Artist.”

Melodic vocals but far from the nostril, simple guitar, fun drums and the perfect touch of the piano make this band something that can spark relaxation in the heaviest of plots. The lyrics remain strong, perfectly catchy, and no matter what the words are, they don’t bring you down. Fair is a band you should let make sex in your ears if you have any kind of open minded taste or if you enjoy the tunes of Death Cab, which would be the closest band I could relate it to. I could say Modest Mouse but that would be pushing it. My personal advice would be to look them up and sample their music if you don’t trust my words. If you want to smile today and many days to come, find a vendor and buy this album. Become seduced, soothed, erect, and you can quote me on this, “Fair the well, because the Fair is well.” ~Lane Mathis
