Normally I don’t cover too many efforts, a few months after they have come out, but I felt like I should come out and tell you about Castevet. Even though this is a simple 8 track EP, “Summer Fences” is able to speak quite loudly and frankly in that amount of time. Although I am not able to groove well with the rough vocals of Will, which are pushed back in the mix and sound like a shouting drunk man from across the street, the records guitars are what speak volumes for it. Teaming guitars build intricate structure, that while being toned to have almost no bass, are able to create walls of sound. I am very glad that their are only brief instances of vocals because the band should either get a new singer or drop the words all together. I mean there are plenty of successful instrumental bands (ex. Goonies Never Say Die). “Summer Fences” is great if you can concentrate only on the raw, fantastic, fret work, but the second you hear the almost-incoherent screams, you might feel like things have gone sour. Luckly I can zone out parts of music so I thoroughly enjoyed Castevet‘s latest outing, in all of its ethereal 6-string splendor. ~Staff
