Evergreen Terrace

Record Label: Metal Blade Records
Interview Date: August 29th, 2009
Interview Type: Email

We would like to start this off by having you introduce yourselves
and what you do in the band? (Beer drinker can be an answer).

I’m Josh, i don’t drink beer but i do play guitar.

We have loved your past releases, most notably “Wolf Biker.” How do
you feel about your new album “Almost Home?” Also, how did the writing
and recording go for the new record?

If you liked Wolfbiker then you will probably be stoked on Almost
Home. With that said, i feel pretty good about the final product. It
doesn’t sound too shitty and there are some really non-annoying songs
on it. Evergreen Terrace records are kinda like sex, even when it’s
bad you’re glad you experienced it.

How did it feel to move from a relatively unknown hardcore label
(Eulogy) to a more well known and metal centered record label with
Metal Blade? How did this transfer to your releases?

It felt great because we finally stopped getting ripped off. Metal
Blade seems to be a good label so far, they are a little weird. We
went to the office and they were sacrificing a pig to to some of the
lords of metal, Cannibal Corpse. That was odd. They did release the
best Goo Goo Dolls records so we figured they were a great a label for
us. It hasn’t transferred to our songwriting though, no matter who is
releasing the record we will always write music that we are personally
stoked on.

How was it to record with Stan and Jason of Audio Hammer and Marvel
Studios respectively?

Working with Stan Lee from Marvel Studios was really intense. He had a
lot of great ideas and actually played bass on the record. You never
would have thought that the same man who created Spiderman, X-men and
all the other classic superheroes would be into punk and hardcore. He
did fart a lot, that was weird. Jason just threw up a lot, that is how
we got a good wet sound.

Were there any specific concepts or influences for your latest
record “Almost Home?”

Being part of an unstable economy had a big influence on this record.
A struggling economy has a lot more to do with then just finances. It
breaks people down. They are angry, they are stressed, they are
concerned and they are cautious. And i think that is what we were for
a lot of 2008. Writing Almost Home was somewhat like therapy for us.
It was a way for us to release our frustrations with what is going on
in our personal lives as well as what is going on in our country, our
music scene and our ideas of the future.

We wish a speedy recovery for your drummer Kyle Mims and ask how it
has been playing with Caleb James?

Thanks, Kyle is currently at home recovering from his surgery and
starting physical therapy. Kyle is a great friend and drummer and we
can’t wait to have him back on the road with us. Caleb James, however,
is a little shit head. When we we’re younger he would get away with
murder. Once my Mom told me i had to wash the dishes, when i looked in
the sink i noticed that they were all Caleb’s dishes. I told my Mom
and she didn’t care, of course that pissed me off so i went to Caleb’s
room to yell at him to wash his own damn dishes. I opened his bedroom
door. He was playing drums. I started yelling at him about the dishes
and he just smiled back and laughed. It made me so furious so i picked
up a shoe and thew it at him. Of course, with my luck, the shoe
bounced off his snare drum and somehow exploded thru his bedroom
window. Obviously breaking a house window only got me into more
trouble. If you didn’t know Caleb is my little brother. He is a great
drummer and we are really stoked that he is playing for us while Kyle
is out of commission. If anyone out there is looking for a good
drummer and a hard worker then hit Caleb up. But don’t expect him to
wash his dishes.

If we were to check out your mp3 player, what would be a few things
we would find on there?

Most recently played: Rancid, Good Riddance and Stretch Arm Strong.

How are you guys feeling about the upcoming “The Hard Knock Live
Tour” with Emmure and Stick To Your Guns, as well as your headlining
tour with Stick To Your Guns in October?

I think it should be an interesting tour. We have heard a lot about
the other bands so we will have to see what rumors are true and what
is false. Other than that we are always stoked to be playing in cities
that we don’t get to play on a normal basis. There are even a couple
towns that we have never played, so that will offer some type of
excitement.

What is something you guys just simply can’t live without while on the
road?

Oxygen, Food and Drink. Luckily, Cracker Barrel offers all 3.

Thank you so much for spending time answering our questions. Is
there anything you would like to say to your fans?

Keep an eye out for a new video for the song “Sending Signals” and
make sure to pick up Almost Home. See you at the show!
