Stripes Separate

The White Stripes have called it quits. A message from Jack and Meg White can be read over at their Myspace. The duo claims the halt wasn’t caused by artistic differences, but rather a wish to not have the act degrade with age and “keep it special.” What ever that means.

The Young International – The Young International EP – Mini Review

It’s not everyday that you hear a debut effort from an up-and-coming pop-rock artist and admire its maturity and execution. Well The Young International, and its four promising members from Nashville TN, aren’t an everyday band — as we are privy to their new self-titled EP, we easily commit to their steady and memorizing brand of pop rock. The product of britpop influence, this carefully crafted, five song, EP was the result of fifteen other tracks hitting the cutting floor and finding the best for the bands first release. I would have had an issue with the fact The Young International could have released an average (12 track) full-length with all the tracks they wrote for this, but I’m honestly too fixated on the few wholesome songs we’ve been given to worry about what could have been past these charming 17 minutes. The band’s lead singer Kaleb Jones, channels a bit of The Killers‘ Brandon Flowers (minus the douche-bag sense of entitlement) and with a ranging set of pipes and tangible echoed fretwork from Chase Gregory the combination really helps elevate this EP leagues above the genres often purpose-less, vain peers. Something you will notice after hearing the beautifully sung and radiant outing, “Gravity” which justifies several listens. Without question, The Young International have put their best foot forward with this lyrically moving and musically soothing debut effort. ~Staff
