Wild Orchid Children – The Wild Orchid Children Are Alexander Supertramp – Review

Release Date: November 9th, 2010
Record Label: Equal Vision Records
Genre: Soul Punk

Several words come to mind when I encountered Wild Orchid Children for the first time. Earthy, rustic, and quixotic to name a few. It may have something to do with the “Gonzo Soul” genre tag the band has given themselves, or the strong indie presence of their live shows — or even the fact that their new album modestly titled “The Wild Orchid Children Are Alexander Supertramp,” has some of the most enigmatic song titles and lyrics known to rock-kind (ie. Gasoline Rainbows (Jesus is a Black Man)). And even if these six guys from Seatle, who recently signed with indie label Equal Vision Records, don’t always find the most accepting crowds ::cough:: Vancouver, they atleast know how to stir up interest in their likeably unconventional, albeit hipster, music. read more

Killing The Dream – Lucky Me – Review

By James Terry  //  Music Reviews  //  No Comments

Release Date: November 23rd, 2010
Record Label: Deathwish Inc.
Genre: Punk

If you have yet to hear about Killing the Dream you probably do not listen to much hardcore. Deathwish Inc. will be releasing the bands latest entitled Lucky Me. This seven track lp is just under 20 minutes, but it packs a heavy hand for a vicious haymaker of explosive melodic hardcore. Killing the Dream comes out swinging with “Blame the Architects,” before slowing it down from a melodic interlude building into a rock groove. As Lucky Me moves forward you continue to feel the emotions pour out of the speakers from the melodic passages that paint vivid pictures. read more

Banner Pilot – Resignation Day – Review

By Dave C.  //  Music Reviews  //  No Comments

Release Date: September 14th, 2010
Record Label: Fat Wreck Chords
Genre: Punk

Coming from Minneapolis and having association with Dillinger Four sadly, these guys get pegged as a mere clone but that is so far from the truth here. This record came after a 8 track EP called Pass The Poison from 4 years ago and since then they’ve been coming quite a long way with their poetic words and power chords. Not to mention these bass lines that’ll not be going unnoticed by you either. read more
