Teenage Bottlerocket – They Came From The Shadows – Review

By Dave C.  //  Music Reviews  //  No Comments

Release Date: September 15th, 2009
Record Label: Fat Wreck Chords
Genre: Pop Punk

September 15th marks the Fat Wreck debut from Wyoming’s Teenage Bottlerocket. They Came From The Shadows is their third album, and over the past few years this band has been hyped up as one of the best true pop punk bands since The Queers. That’s a pretty big claim, but after listening to this record for a while I can confirm that it could mark a big comeback for the genre. Of course it never died and has been continually revitalized with new bands like The Dopamines, Dear Landlord and The Steinways to name a few, but Teenage Bottlerocket has the chance to bring this sound to a whole new generation and much broader audience. read more

Revenge – Revenge – Mini Review

By James Terry  //  Music Reviews  //  No Comments

Release Date: August 30th, 2009
Record Label: Frequency Deleted Records
Genre: Hardcore

Underground, raw, and hard is the best way to describe Western Massachusett’s, Revenge. The band has come together with Frequency Deleted Records to put out eighteen raw hardcore tracks on their first self titled full length that came out August 30th. If you are looking for high end polished sound, run away now. If you are accustomed to basement shows and pure energy gets you moving pick this album up now. Short, pissed, is the best way to describe Revenge; they have a raw hardcore sound blended with Integrity-like metallic sound. The vocals from Dan send chills down my spine, especially on “Haunted,” which is probably the best song on the album. Revenge overall has a real menacing sound that recaptures the D.I.Y hardcore attitude that has been lost in the clutter of the current hardcore scene. Revenge has so much potential all they need is more people to listen, honestly this will be the best album you ever buy from a band you haven’t heard of before. ~James Terry
Score: 4.5/5

Madlove – White With Foam – Review

Release Date: September 1st, 2009
Record Label: Ipecac Recordings
Genre: Eerie Rock

Madlove, the brain child of bassist Trevor Dunn, has virtually come out of nowhere to release their latest album “White With Foam.” On the roster of well-known indie label, Ipecac Recordings, this five-piece rock outfit is fairly young and still growing into their skin as a band. The positive thing is that you can’t really tell that while listening to their new record. Featuring a tempered tempo that remains calm and collected all the way through, Madlove happens to play some moving music, just make sure you drink several cups of coffee before listening, because “White With Foam” has a way of putting you in a sleepy trance. read more
