Billy Talent – Billy Talent III – Review

Release Date: September 22nd, 2009
Record Label: Roadrunner Records
Genre: Post-Rock

I have always been very proud of Billy Talent. When I first heard the bands self-titled record, I kept in my CD player on repeat for most of 2003 and 2004. And there is a very good reason — they consistently resurface with new albums that continue to have loads of artistic fervor and memorable rock. The Canadian band also managed to sign to a major record label and still keep the integrity firmly placed in their efforts, (something that is tricky to do) as well as stay just below the radar so you are able to laugh at your friends for not hearing of this incredibly talented and progressive band (because they aren’t obscure). And as the band progressed from their former band Pezz, to “Billy Talent,” and “Billy Talent II,” you could definitely notice that, while the bands core sound remained the same, they did loads of experimenting. Their latest (and obviously titled) album, “Billy Talent III” is no different. read more

Thieves & Liars – American Rock N’ Roll – Review

Release Date: September 1st, 2009
Record Label: Facedown Records
Genre: Classic Rock

When Thieves & Liars‘ first record, “When Dreams Become Reality,” was released, the rock trio was simply doing what came natural, which was loving America and jamming some classic rock tunes. The groups new record, “American Rock N’ Roll,” takes it a step further with both of their hobbies taking center stage. While you might not see the American flag so boisterously hung anywhere except a Garth Brooks concert (where he is most likely wearing it as a shirt), Thieves & Liars will undoubtedly be playing live in front of one. read more

Banner Pilot – Collapser – Review

Release Date: August 31st, 2009
Record Label: Fat Wreck Chords
Genre: Punk

Collapser” is the second full length from Banner Pilot, and this is the first that many people have heard of them because it is their Fat debut. They reside in Minnesota and have been around since 2005, but Nate and Nick have been playing music together since 2000 when they were in Rivethead. Their back catalog includes an EP from  2006, a split 7” with Orlando’s Monikers,  and an incredible full length “Resignation Day” from the summer of 2008 on Go-Kart  Records. I first got into them when the 7” came out, and when I received the album I was blown away. I emailed the band to tell them how great it was, and they ended up sending me a Christmas card that year. They are really nice guys and as genuine as it gets, so I am really happy they got their big break by getting signed to Fat. read more
