The Urgency – The Urgency – Review
Release Date: April 21st, 2009
Record Label: Mercury Records
Genre: Rock
Chances are that if you were to look at The Urgency‘s new self-titled album’s artwork you might become a bit confused. It has a sword shoved deep into a girl’s mouth, some flowers, wings, and some amorphous goo. Still, the buzz that is coming around for this band is something that must be investigated, even if we never truly understand the CD cover. And even though The Urgency was only formed a little over 3 years ago, its founding members have been hard at work way before that working towards the day they would put this four piece together and release a full-length. Today’s the day, and self-titled is the way. read more

Vice On Victory – Glitter & Gold – Review
Release Date: March 31st, 2009
Record Label: Standby Records
Genre: Pop-Rock
Emerging from the heart of Ohio, Columbus’s own Vice on Victory emerges from their DIY roots to release its debut for Standby Records. Vice on Victory has been playing their version of catchy pop rock since 2007. Believe me it’s catchy, I tend to stray away from pop punk but I can not help but tap my foot to this. With a little help from producer John Burke (Driver Side Impact), Vice on Victory has put together a twelve track debut for Standby entitled ‘Glitter & Gold.’ With the vocal styling’s of Dany Melette with some assistance from guitarist Trevor Boggs; Vice on Victory belt out their pop rock anthems for the masses. All to the beat provided from guitarist Marko Skugor, bassist Patrick Stockhausen, and drummer Billy Arnett. read more

A Love Like Pi – Atlas And The Oyster – Review
Release Date: March 24th, 2009
Record Label: Thriving Records
Genre: Electronic Rock
If you happened to walk past a Hot Topic recently and noticed a CD cover with the world as a pearl inside of an oyster, don’t worry, you aren’t looking at the next gloomy goth-tastic metal band that horrendous store can squirt out. You are instead scoping out the three piece electronica rock band from the banks of Jersey, A Love Like Pi. I can get past the cheesy story surrounding their name, as well as their latest album title “Atlas And The Oyster,” I was just hoping I could wrap my head around their synth influenced rock. The effort was produced by Kenny Gioia (Bayside, Head Automatica, Four Year Strong) and besides H.A. I’m really a fan of his projects. read more
